Redefining the CFO's Role to Deal with Digital Transformation

Redefining the CFO's Role to Deal with Digital Transformation

BlastAsia and Workcentric, in partnership with IBM, welcomed CFOs from different industries to a knowledge-sharing session on Digital Transformation in Finance last December 13, 2017 at Shangri La at the Fort, Taguig City.

It is apparent that Digital Transformation brings with it many disruptive forces that shake up markets today. Instead of resisting change, finance leaders are expected to be part of the innovation agenda while maintaining focus and discipline around its execution. With this, BlastAsia and Workcentric saw the need for CFOs to be updated with rapidly changing technology and business trends to equip them with the needed skills to reinforce leadership in this area.

Attended by over 30 CFOs, the session was opened by Gurango Software Corporation Founder and Chairman Joey Gurango who discussed on how digital mastery is important in finance and how the finance department can leverage on digital transformation.

What better way to discuss further on the benefits of digital transformation in finance than have financial executives of some of the biggest companies in the Philippines share their experiences on the matter. Members of the panel were IBM Philippines Software Group Country Manager John Patrick Vicente, San Miguel Brewery Vice President and Financial Planning & Analytics Manager Rodney Holmes and Maynilad Water Services Chief Financial Officer Ricardo de los Reyes who candidly imparted their insights on their leadership role as CFOs in adopting high-level technology in their respective financial processes.

As a follow through, IBM ASEAN Financial Planning & Analytics Leader Deb Mukherji expounded on how analytics has become a compelling force in informed decision-making. His talk focused on how to extract maximum value from data using Planning Analytics. With an equally significant and interesting topic, IBM Philippines Cloud Technical Specialist Aris Coronel discussed Robotic Process Automation which makes it possible to create a digital workforce that will enable companies to automate manual, repetitive, mundane activities. The CFO attendees took the opportunity to raise questions and voice out their thoughts during the open forum which concluded the event.
